Reggie teases Metroid and Mother 3 for the Switch. Says the console won’t have “large gaps” between releases

Turn your excitement up a notch.

In a recent interview with GameSpot, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime nipped the question about whether we would see Mother 3 and Metroid on the Switch in the bud before he could be asked about them.

“Oh, so earlier today I got asked about Mother 3; maybe you can ask me about Metroid. Look, again, I am proud as an executive with Nintendo to say that we look at all of the boards and all of the comments and we really have a good understanding of what our consumers want. And believe me, we take that to heart as we work to create content.

“So I have nothing to announce–here. But we are aware that there are some key IP that consumers just can’t wait for the next true installment in that franchise’s legacy. Suffice it to say, we’re aware of it, and talk to me in a year and let’s look back and see what’s happened.”

That’s one hell of a tease, Reggie. Are we going to see a new Metroid by 2018? Or a western release of Mother 3?

He’s said enough to get fans’ hopes up while remaining vague enough to not make any promises.

Reggie also stressed the importance of the company not having “large gaps” between the releases, as they did with the Wii U, and said that the Switch will have “a regular cadence of critical launches to drive the install base and keep the consumer base engaged.”

The launch line-up was announced last week and doesn’t feature a great deal of new titles, so we’ll have to see what else they have up their sleeve for the coming months.

The Nintendo Switch is available to pre-order now, and releases worldwide on March 3.
