How to get the Death Stranding Easter egg in Horizon Zero Dawn

The Guerrilla and Kojima love goes deep.

Well, here’s a surprise: It turns out PS4 exclusive Horizon Zero Dawn has a number of items hidden in the game that reference Death Stranding, the new game from Hideo Kojima.

Kojima is using Guerrilla Games Decima Engine for Death Stranding, a tool so powerful he refers to it as a “rocket“.

And it seems the love is mutual, with Horizon Zero Dawn developer Guerrilla Games hiding references to Kojima’s upcoming game in the post-pre-historic-robot-dinosaur action adventure.

There are three Death Stranding items in total, which you can see in the video above from Arekkz. Here’s how to get them:

How to get the Death Stranding Easter egg in Horizon Zero Dawn

You’re looking for three items in total, highlighted in game with a purple glow; the Stranded Necklace, Stranded Shackles and Stranded Figure. These can then be traded at the Specialty Merchant for a number of useful items.

The Stranded Necklace is something you’ll come across relatively early in the game. Just keep an eye out and you shouldn’t really miss it. The Stranded Shackles are located on the west side of the map, around the back of the Colosseum. The Stranded Figure can be found in the starting area, underground, near the stairs. Again, check out the video above to see a clear route.

All three of these items are marked in you menu with the Ludens logo (Kojima’s company mascot). Take these to the Speciality Merchant on the south west part of the map and trade them in for some new items. And that’s it!

If you’re wondering what these items are referring to, you’ll see the Stranded Necklace is a replication of the necklace worn by Norman Reedus in the first Death Stranding trailer, as are the Stranded Shackles, again from the first trailer.

The Stranded Figure you’ll recognise as the baby from the second trailer that also starred hottest actor on the planet, Mads Mikkelsen.

Horizon Zero Dawn is out this week for PS4 and seems to benefit greatly from the added power of the PS4 Pro.

Death Stranding doesn’t have a release date at all so we’re just going to have to pine for it until Kojima blesses us with more info, quite possibly at E3 2017.
