Overwatch’s D.Va seems kind of amazing in Heroes of the Storm

Overwatch’s D.Va comes to Heroes of the Storm, where her wide variety of abilities combine in complicated ways.

Heroes of the Storm has vacuumed up another Overwatch character in its ongoing quest not to end up as Blizzard’s forgotten project.

D.Va, one of Overwatch’s most beloved tanks, isn’t an obvious choice to become a MOBA character, but this just means the Heroes of the Storm team have had to be creative with her implementation. The result, as outlined in the video above, is complex.

Just as in Overwatch, D.Va has two different modes and playing her involves switching between mech and pilot form and balancing the risks and rewards of both. The ability to call down a mech immediately after self-destruct means you don’t have to spend too long in the more vulnerable pilot mode after a successful attack, but if your mech is destroyed by enemies you’ll have to leg it. D.Va’s primary weakness in Heroes of the Storm seems to be her lack of other survivability traits, but her attacks reduce cooldowns on her mech and self-destruct, so getting in there and hitting hard may be worth the risk.

Skilful D.Va play in Overwatch involves careful management of the risk-reward factors of her two forms, and it certainly looks like this carries over to Heroes of the Storm. It’s really interesting to see how characters from the MOBA-influenced shooter are transformed when they enter the Nexus.
