The Witcher fan movie looks tasty, but it needs your cash

A fan-made Witcher film is looking for funding on Indiegogo.

Alzur’s Legacy is a fan-made film based in Andrzej Sapkowski’s Witcher universe. The epic project is being undertaken by a group of Polish filmmakers and is totally non-profit, but they need the community’s help to complete it.

Geralt is nowhere to be seen, but you’ll spot the familiar faces of Lambert, Triss Merigold, and Dandelion. The general gist of the story is as follows:

“Nearly half a century after the Rivian Pogrom, Kaer Morhen, old mountain keep of monster slayers called ‘the witchers’, is attacked.

“Shortly after a young renegade sorceress suspected of obtaining legendary Alzur’s Almanach flees from the Aretuza, a newly rebuilt magical school. Triss Merigold, a veteran sorceress, pursues her and during her stay at the inn she encounters famous bard Dandelion and the witcher Lambert.”

The Indiegogo page explains that the film uses the game for aesthetic inspiration, but that the story is based on the books.

The team is shooting on location and “would like to fully appreciate the slavic spirit of witcher’s universum through music (composed by Liz Katrin), dialogues (Polish with English subtitles), real medieval sceneries, hand sewn costumes and armours/weaponry made by craftsmen of historical reconstruction teams.”

The fundraising effort has so far raised almost $1500 of its $15,000 goal and with only 17 days to go, they’re going to need a surge of support to hit their target, although the flexible goal means that the campaign will receive all funds raised, even if it doesn’t make it.

Tiers range from $1 to $750, with the latter offering patrons an opportunity to watch the preview cut and make suggestions for alterations for the final cut.

An official film was announced a few years ago, but we’ve yet to see a release on the horizon for that, so this’ll have to do for now.

Will you be opening your wallet? What do you think of the project? Let us know in the comments.
