Dress up in monster armor for a bit of martial arts action. Not bad for free… but there’s a catch.
Street Fighter 5 is getting some all-new character costumes to celebrate the release of Monster Hunter World – and they’re available for free! You’ll have to earn them, however, so I’d get to polishing up those fighting skills…
The new Monster Hunter themed costumes for Ken, R. Mika and Ibuki allow the shoto, wrestler and ninja to dress up in accurate recreations of the armor crafted from the corpses of Rathalos, Zinogre and Kirin from Monster Hunter. If you’re really so inclined, you’ll be able to match up your armor in Monster Hunter World and Street Fighter 5: Arcade Edition.
Here’s what the three look like:
The costumes are tied to Street Fighter 5 Arcade Edition’s Extra Battle mode, a mode that’ll pit you against unique computer-controlled opponents in special, limited battles.
Extra Battle requires you to spend some of the SF5 Fight Money to enter, though the cost to get in can be easily gathered together by completing one or two of the missions in SF5. If you fail, you’ll need to cough up more fight money to enter again.
Each costume is earned in four pieces through four limited-time battles. Each battle costs 2500 Fight Money to enter, making a total cost of 10,000 FM for each costume if you win each battle first time. Here’s the schedule, with the battles running from the end of February right through until April:
- Rathalos Armor for Ken
- Part 1: 2/27 – 3/08
- Part 2: 3/08 – 3/15
- Part 3: 3/15 – 3/22
- Part 4 3/22 – 3/29
- Zinogre Armor for Rainbow Mika
- Part 1: 3/08 – 3/15
- Part 2: 3/15 – 3/22
- Part 3 3/22 – 3/29
- Part 4 3/29 – 4/05
- Kirin Armor for Ibuki
- Part 1: 3/15 – 3/22
- Part 2 3/22 – 3/29
- Part 3 3/29 – 4/05
- Part 4 4/05 – 4/12
As you can see, the battles overlap a little, so hit up our Street Fighter 5 Fight Money guide to get your fight money ready to wager and prepare for this battle – these costumes can’t be picked up any other way right now!
Monster Hunter World is out on 26th January – and as we explain in our Monster Hunter World review, it’s the first new must-have game of 2018.
