Epic Games has taken Fortnite offline to make some improvements to the service.
Recently, Epic has been forced to implement cooldowns between matches, due to server load. Players have also been reporting increased lag and more noticable bugs such as floating weapons.
Epic announced the downtime in a tweet:
We’re applying updates to our backend services tomorrow, April 5 at 4am ET (0800 GMT) that will help with scaling. There will be downtime.

The developer followed this tweet up a few minutes ago, saying: “Downtime has started! We’re about to take matchmaking offline so we can perform some updates. No ETA for return, but we hope to have you back in the game ASAP.”
You can keep an eye out for updates at the Fortnite site.
When Fortnite comes back online, we are expecting Week 7’s challenges to go live alongside the game. You can get ready for those at that link.
Epic also introduced all-new vending machines in a recent content update. We have a map of all the Fortnite vending machine locations, so you can get ready for battle with that, too.
