You can’t go wrong with any of Far Cry 5’s console versions, but Xbox One X is where it’s at – report

Far Cry 5 looks great and keeps to its target frame-rate on all consoles, according to a new report.

Parity exists across all console versions of Far Cry 5, with only resolutions differentiating the more powerful PS4 Pro and Xbox One X from their base siblings.

According to Digital Foundry‘s analysis of all versions, the game excels visually thanks to the use of temporal anti-aliasing (TAA), which blurs the differences between the four platforms.

The only clear differentiating factor here is the resolution, which starts at 1440×1080 on Xbox One, compared to a full 1080p on PS4. As expected, this makes the image appear softer on Xbox One compared to other platforms.

PS4 Pro ups the ante with 2880×1620, while Xbox One X is capable of full 4K. Native 4K highlights the great texture work, and offers the best way to appreciate all the little details. The increased resolution also helps make out distant objects.

Unfortunately, all other graphical details are identical across all four consoles. Including texture filtering, and pop-in, which kicks in at similar points on all versions. Frame-rate is similarly locked to 30fps across the board, with only some instances of dropped frames or tearing here and there.

Xbox One X overall takes the cake, with the report calling its 4K performance with Far Cry 5 “one of the finest examples of 4K image quality.”
