Fortnite Season 6: start date, map changes and everything else we know

With Season 5 soon drawing to a close, let’s take a look at what we know and the rumours surrounding Fortnite’s upcoming Season 6.

When does Fortnite Season 6 start?

The start date for Season 6 of Fortnite should be sometime between September 21-24. The Battle Pass countdown timer has changed with Week 9 now starting tomorrow from 2pm. We’ll be able to give you an update of a confirmed start time over the next week or so.

Depending on the success of High Stakes we could hopefully see another stand-alone event like this in Season 6 as well as a revamp of the popular Playground mode which was a welcome break from the sometimes overwhelming Battle Royal.

Time travel, aliens or the end of the world?

These recently leaked skins show an 80s theme with what looks like a red DeLorean and giving the time and space bending abilities of the Cube, we could potentially see more time travel activity in Fortnite Season 6. According to some players, the Crazy Castle spray from Battle Pass might be a hint at the appearance of a castle in Season 6 which fits in with time travel idea, despite there not being any medieval skins in recent leaks.

Another idea which is being considered is the idea that an alternative reality Fortnite map and players may become available in Season 6. A leaked image of the Cube shows an avatar reaching towards it only to be faced with an evil-looking alternative version of herself. This would fit in with the 80s sci-fi theme that the leaked images displayed.

Building on the current Viking theme of Season 5, players have translated the runes on the Viking ship to mean “renewal” and “transformation” which, with the current Ragnarok challenge, might mean that the map will be totally destroyed to make way for something completely different and new. Players will remember that the rocket launch happened a while before Season 4 ended so it’s not unreasonable to expect that a big event will go down in the last remaining weeks of Season 5.

Many players believe that the Tomatohead Temple represents the Mayans, whose pyramids many believe were built by aliens, giving Epic the opportunity to shoehorn in some extraterrestrial beings.

The Cube

The elusive Cube seems to be travelling to its endpoint: Loot Lake. Largely unchanged since the launch of Fortnite, it would make sense for the Cube to transform that area first or at least start there. Dedicated data miner Fortnite Leakage appears to have found something that shows Loot Lake will be the Cube’s final destination:

Halloween specials and new consumables

Halloween is also in the middle of Fortnite Season 6 and fans are wondering will we see the return of the Skull Trooper or something equally exciting this year. The skin was a favourite amongst fans and instrumental to Fortnite’s initial success so expectations will be high.

Again, Fortnite Leakage has provided us with some hope that Balloons will be made available as consumables to allow us to break our falls and gain a tactical advantage over our peers.

Pets and weapon skins are also rumoured to appear this upcoming. Weapon skins are the next logical financial step for Fortnite so it would make sense that they would introduce them eventually; the same could be said about the introduction of pets. Music packs could also be a very interesting or possibly annoying new addition to gameplay.

We have high hopes for another excellent Season from Epic and will regularly update this page when we know more.
