One of the coolest new features in Fallout 76 is the ability to secure the launch codes for a nuke before firing it off somewhere on the map.
During a recent hands-on with the game, we got a glimpse of one of the nukes in action. Because we were low level, we didn’t get to fire it off ourselves, but Bethesda launched one so we could see it.
When a nuke is fired, you get a few minutes to escape the blast zone which is visible on the map as a big red circle. You can even fast travel away from the zone, so it’s unlikely you’ll ever be caught in one.
As soon as the warning popped up, we fast travelled to a nearby vantage point to see the bomb go off. We recorded the moment so you can watch it below:
In the full game, you’ll be able to explore the irradiated aftermath of these explosions. The area affected by the blast will spawn high level enemies as well as some of the rarest loot.
We didn’t get to see this, however – you need to go in with a hazmat suit, power armour, or lots of radaway. We ran into the blast and only survived a couple of seconds before succumbing to the rads.
Fallout 76 is out on November 14. While you wait, here’s everything we know about Fallout 76.
