Will Obsidian work on another Fallout game? “Very doubtful”

Cast your hopes and dreams aside for another Obsidian-developed Fallout title. Probably best to just put them in the bin, honestly.

It doesn’t appear Obsidian Entertainment will work on another Fallout title, despite the world’s eternal love for Fallout: New Vegas.

When questioned on Twitter regarding the possibility of working with Bethesda again on the franchise, the answer was rather disappointing for many.

Obsidian has said multiple times in the past it would like to work on another Fallout game. Last year, studio CEO Feargus Urquhart told Alex he’d “love to do another Fallout,” and said as far back as 2013 “we’d love to do Fallout: New Vegas 2.”

Urquhart’s history with Fallout goes back a long way. He founded Black Isle Studios which worked on the first two Fallout games as a division of Interplay Entertainment. Black Isle was eventually closed due to Interplay’s financial issues.

Since the release of New Vegas in 2010, Bethesda has grown tremendously, and with plenty of staffers across the globe, it has more than enough bodies to develop its own Fallout titles. The latest in the series, Fallout 76, releases next week.

It’s a busy time at Obsidian anyway, as the company is working on a new RPG under Take-Two’s Private Division label led by Tim Cain and Leonard Boyarsky, co-creators of Fallout. The studio took to Twitter in late 2017 to tease the project.

And then, there’s the rumor Microsoft is ready to cut Obsidian a check and bring it into the fold. That would certainly nip the possibility of a Fallout project in the bud.

In short, it appears we’ll never see another Fallout title from Obsidian. Then again, who knows what the future holds. Even a Magic 8-Ball can be wrong on occasion.
