Mortal Kombat 11’s community manager has stressed that the game was “never designed to encourage in-game purchases.”
In yesterday’s Kombat Kast, NetherRealm Studios’ community manager Tyler Lansdown and senior system designer Derek Kirtzic addressed the community’s issues with Mortal Kombat’s Towers of Time and Krypts.
The title launched this week, and players have been quick to point out problems with the Towers of Time, saying that the various modifiers and debuffs are designed to cajole players to buy skip fight tokens.
“At launch, the difficulty of Towers of Time was too high. People felt that it was unfair” said NetherRealm Studio’s community manager, Tyler Lansdown. “Unfortunately, that made the process of earning rewards to go through the Krypt seem punishingly slow.”
He added that the game was “never designed to encourage in-game purchases,” explaining that NetherRealm has never “made games that way” and that they’re not about to start now, and that a fix is on the way.

Mortal Kombat 11 creator Ed Boon chimed in on Twitter, saying that the patch will address the difficulty of Towers of Time as well as improved rewards in the Krypt.

Another crazy aspect of the game is the cash you’ll drop if you want to buy all the skins, with one player working out that it would cost $6,440 to buy every single one.
