Sony has officially sold over 100 million PS4 consoles.
Since its introduction in November 2013, the PS4 has now sold 100 million units worldwide. Sony announced the unsurprising news earlier today as part of its earnings results [PDF] for the first quarter of FY2019.
During the quarter, ending June 30, 3.2 million consoles were sold, bringing the total to 100 million. The more interesting statistic is that the console reached this milestone in five years and seven months.
According to Niko Partners senior analyst Daniel Ahmad, this makes PS4 the fastest console to reach 100 million ever, outpacing the PS2 as well as the Nintendo Wii.
This makes PlayStation 4 the fastest home console to reach 100 million unit sell in.
Faster than both the PS2 and Wii which were just behind.

Although PS4 sales have generally been slowing down, as often happens towards the end of a console generation, the Game and Network Services segment performed very well for the company in Q1. This was mostly driven by strong PlayStation Plus and sales through the PlayStation Store, as well as obviously the 3.2 million hardware units.
In fact, digital is strong now that full game downloads have surpassed half (53%) of all games sold during the quarter.
Overall, Game and Network Services continues to be Sony’s biggest moneymaker, bringing in 32% of the company’s profits in Q1.
