Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – armour mods, dungeons, cross-save and more

It won’t be long until we’ll be visiting the moon again in Shadowkeep, so let’s take a look at everything we know about the next Destiny 2 expansion.

Shadowkeep has had its release date pushed back, letting Destiny 2 players enjoy the Season of Opulence a little longer.

There are some significant changes being made to some of Destiny 2’s core systems, with the return of stats and more mods for your armour. Cross-saving will also be available soon with the release of Google Stadia, so it’ll be an interesting year for Destiny players.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – release date

Shadowkeep is due to release on October 1, 2019, for PC, Xbox One and PS4. It’ll be another month before it’s available on Google Stadia.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – cross-save

You’ll be able to cross-save your progress between PC, PS4 and Xbox One from August 21.

Bungie has also set up a new page for people who want to migrate their PC accounts to Steam when Destiny 2 leaves Battle.net. You’ll be able to set that up from today, ready for the October 1 Steam launch. This will carry over all your guardians and in-game purchases.

Unfortunately, you won’t be able to cross-play just yet though Bungie is keen to implement it at some point. Cross-save will also be available on Google Stadia when it launches in November.

There is a downside, however: when cross-save launches on August 21, players who earn gear on platforms where they do not own Forsaken will receive that gear at below-Forsaken Power levels until Forsaken is purchased on that platform.

If you have a Guardian at 750 Power and own Forsaken on the Xbox One but not on PC, you’ll receive gear drops at 380 Power when earned on PC while cross-saving you Xbox One Guardian.

These Power restrictions will be removed in Update 2.6.0 with the launches of New Light and Shadowkeep later this year, so check back soon for more information.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – Season pass

Unlike Forsaken, you don’t need to own any of the previous Destiny 2 expansions in order to play Shadowkeep. If players already own the current Season Pass, they will receive credit toward future Seasons up until Season 11. Any credits beyond Season 11 will be exchanged for an equivalent value of Silver, the in-game currency.

Destiny 2: New Light is the new free-to-play version, where players will start off at a higher light level, to minimize grind and to be able to start playing with others after the first 15 minutes.

This also opens up Gambit, the campaign, and Strikes to new players. Locations such as Tangled Shore, the Dreaming City, and the Moon will unlock as you progress.

Activities such as raids in Forsaken will still need to be unlocked, and you will eventually need to buy the Forsaken expansion if you wish to continue playing the content or to participate in Raids, Exotic Quests, Strikes and dungeons. If you want to access the new Shadowkeep raids and activities you’ll also need to buy the standalone game.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – gameplay

As we said earlier, we’re returning to the moon in Shadowkeep, which will be roughly twice the size of the moon in Destiny. It will look much the same as the previous moon, though the Hive have altered its appearance quite a bit.

It’s also now haunted and will be a location filled with psychological horror, so it’ll be interesting to see what fresh hell awaits us there.

You’ll be teaming up with Eros Morn, who Destiny fans will remember from defeating Oryx and Crota. Remnants of old foes – that is, Shadow version of previous bosses and enemies – have appeared on the moon after Eros unwittingly disturbed a mysterious force.

We might even get to see that wizard that came from the moon in Shadowkeep, so remember to listen out for the infamous line.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – new activities

Vex outbreaks are appearing all over the system and you’ll be able to revisit the Black Garden in an all-new raid. We might see Quira, the Taken Vex Mind who currently controls the Dreaming City curse at some point during the raid, though it hasn’t been confirmed yet.

There will also be a new dungeon, which should please fans of The Shattered Throne. It’ll be interesting to see how these activities tie in with the new Season of the Undying, as the moon looks to be the most challenging location yet.

Nightmare Hunts were also introduced at Gamescom, bringing back difficulty levels. This activity looks to be a Strike/ Dungeon hybrid, with different rewards for each difficulty level.

There’s also the Scarlet Keep Strike which you can play solo or with two other Guardians.

PvP is set to improve in Shadowkeep, and the Crucible playlist structure is going to get a bit of an overhaul. The Trials of Osiris could be returning at some stage, but they definitely won’t be available at launch.

You can see what to expect in the Season of the Undying here.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – changes to PvP modes

There are many new PvP changes coming in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, with a Classic Mix replacing Quickplay and Competitive being swamped out for a 3c3 Survival match that awards Glory.

There will also be a 6v6 Control match available, with new 6v6 and 4v4 rotator playlists. Matchmaking will also see some changes to make sure you’re matched with Guardians similar in skill.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – changes to stats, armour and Artifacts

You’ll be able to equip a finishing move in an armour slot in Shadowkeep. It will cost you Super energy and you’ll be vulnerable during the move, however, so use it wisely.

You’ll also be able to power up armour to increase a piece’s mod capacity. This means that you can wear whatever armour you like and grind it out for mods to suit your playstyle. Powering up the armour by completing certain objectives will increase the number of mods you can equip.

Stats are also back in Shadowkeep and you’ll be managing your Intellect, Discipline and Strength a la Destiny. Mobility, Resilience and Recovery will still be present, but the new stats control Super, grenade and melee power respectively.

Artifacts are also returning to Destiny 2 but they’ll work a little differently. Each season, there will be a new Artifact to upgrade. Once it’s fully upgraded, there will be a tier list from which you can choose Exotic perks, though it’s not clear what those perks are.

The latest trailers showed off a new Vex icon that could potentially lead to some cool new mods for your armour which encompass the Darkness over Light.

The Eye of the Gate Lord is the first Artifact you’ll be upgrading, so check back soon for more information.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep – Exotic gear

New Exotics will also be added into the loot pool, with the trailer showing off a cool Vex-themed Exotic trace rifle, a machine gun and what looks like the Monte Carlo auto-rifle.

As we’ve already seen throughout Forsaken, revamped version of old favourites are a big thing in Destiny 2, so you can expect to see a few more classic weapons appear in Shadowkeep.

We also got a look at the Assassin’s Cowl, which grants you invisibility and replenishes some health and shields back when you defeat another Guardian using melee.
