Prison Architect expansion Island Bound introduces Alcatraz Island this June

The next expansion to indie strategy game Prison Architect is coming to PC and consoles on June 11.

Island Bound, as you can guess from its title, introduces island-based content in the form of two new Alcatraz-inspired pre-made maps: Alcatraz Prison and Alcatraz Island.

Additionally, you can expect a bunch more island-centric customization options – moats, rivers, and lakes for security, new ferry and helicopter transport options that introduce new methods for sneaking contraband into the prison, and additional emergency services like air firefighters and paramedics.

“We originally teased Island Bound at PDXCON last year and our players have been speculating about what we’ve been creating ever since,” writes Prison Architect product manager Steacy McIlwham in a prepared statement.

“Island Bound is our first all-original, full-fledged, content expansion for Prison Architect since Paradox purchased the IP in 2019. We are happy to bring Island Bound to all of Prison Architect’s players on PC and console – a first in Prison Architect history.”

Publisher Paradox Interactive has also released another expansion specifically for PC, and this one is free. Cleared for Transfer is meant to “create a more complex management experience” by giving players the ability to reward good behaviour and motivate inmate reform with special privileges. This has come out alongside another free content update, The Bucket, which adds over 20 new items to customize your prison.

Prison Architect: Island Bound will be available on PC, Xbox One, PS4, and Nintendo Switch.
