Suda51 wants more of his older games to come to Nintendo Switch, but publisher rights remain an issue

For veteran game designer Suda51, the problem of porting his classic games to Nintendo Switch comes down to publisher rights.

Goichi Suda, better known to us denizens of the Internet as Suda51, participated once again in the annual MomoCon festival. While the Atlanta, Georgia-based event was cancelled this year due to COVID-19, a livestreamed alternative was set up to take its place where the game developer was able to answer a few fan questions.

Many of these revolved around the potential for Nintendo Switch ports of some of his most popular titles: Killer7, Killer is Dead, and Silver Case, among others.

Unfortunately, despite being the creative force behind these titles, Suda51 isn’t able to port the games without an okay from their publishers.

“Killer7 is up to Capcom,” he said via a translator. Similarly, Killer is Dead has “split rights” with Kadokawa Games which means bringing the title to Switch would require their approval.

1999’s The Silver Case, however, remains the likeliest candidate for a Nintendo Switch port. The game originally launched for PlayStation before receiving an HD remaster in 2016 for PC, and later for PS4. According to the developer, there have “even been discussions about it.”

During the livestream Suda51 also hinted at a possible remake of the adventure game Flower, Sun, and Rain. Flower, Sun, and Rain was released on PlayStation 2 in 2001, before getting a Nintendo DS port seven years later. It’s not as well-remembered as Killer 7, which came out on the PS2 and GameCube in 2005.

As previously confirmed, Grasshopper Manufacture’s No More Heroes 3 is expected to release sometime this year. First revealed in 2019, the upcoming hack-and-slash game will arrive on Nintendo Switch. You can check out a trailer for the new title below:
