Xbox Game Studios titles for the next couple of years will be cross-gen

Microsoft has reiterated that it’s not leaving Xbox One players behind just yet.

In the same blog post where Microsoft announced that Project xCloud will soon be included in Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, the company also reiterated its commitment to making its games available on as many Xbox consoles as possible.

The platform holder expressed a desire not to “force” players into buying an Xbox Series X, which is in stark contrast to Sony’s approach with PS5, where it is more interested in creating games not possible on today’s hardware.

As such, head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, said that all games from Xbox Game Studios released in the next couple of years will be available on Xbox One, as well as Xbox Series X.

“We want every Xbox player to play all the new games from Xbox Game Studios,” Spencer wrote.

“That’s why Xbox Game Studios titles we release in the next couple of years – like Halo Infinite – will be available and play great on Xbox Series X and Xbox One. We won’t force you to upgrade to Xbox Series X at launch to play Xbox exclusives.”

Which means, next week’s Xbox Games Showcase should bring a lot of good news to Xbox One owners who don’t intend on upgrading anytime soon. Microsoft has, of course, stuck to that message since shortly after Xbox Series X was officially revealed, but it will be interesting to see the first game to bunk the trend.
