Cyberpunk 2077 may not officially offer a third-person perspective, but modders have already begun working on a solution.
Cyberpunk 2077 is played almost entirely in first-person. With the exception of when you drive a vehicle, the rest of the game – including cutscenes – all play out in first-person.
This fact actually upset some fans well before the game came out, because it was a big departure for developer CD Projekt Red, whose games up to that point had all been third-person. Nevertheless, most who moved on could now, sort of, play Cyberpunk 2077 in third-person.
Modder Jelle Bakker has released the first version of their third-person mod on Nexus Mods. This is really more of hack than a mod, but it does achieve the effect. The only problem is, because the game was not made with third-person in mind, you’ll have to forgive character animations sometimes being out of sync, or appearing to render at a framerate higher than they should.
This will make it appear like your character is gliding rather than walking, and the camera distance could also use a bit of work to make it feel you’re embodying the character rather than following them. Other issues the mod exposes include the lack of/wonky animations in certain scenarios such as combat. Once again, these were not meant to be seen from that perspective, so it’s understandable that not everything is going to look pristine.
Nevertheless, the mod includes files for both male and female V, which are important. The video above shows it off, and explains how you could install the mod yourself (you’re going to need Cyber Engine Tweaks first).
