Cyberpunk 2077 Expanded Refund Policy on Xbox Ends in July

Microsoft's Cyberpunk 2077 expanded refunded policy will come to an end next month.

Microsoft has quietly updated its Digital Game Purchase Refund Terms page to reflect a change in how its handling Cyberpunk 2077 refunds. Xbox expanded its refund policy last December to allow anyone who purchased CD Projekt Red's latest RPG to refund the game in-full. That expanded policy will end on July 6.

"The team at CD Projekt Red continues to work hard to improve the experience of Cyberpunk 2077 for Xbox players and has made a number of updates," a notice on Microsoft's digital game refunds page reads. "Given these updates, Microsoft will be returning to our standard digital game refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 on July 6 for both new and existing purchases."

What Microsoft's standard digital game refund policy looks like can be found on the same page where this Cyberpunk 2077-related notice can be found.

According to Microsoft, "all sales of Digital Game Products are considered final," but that when players request a refund for a digital game, the company will "consider a variety of factors like time since date of purchase, time since release, and use of the product," so not all is necessarily lost for those who want a refund.

Microsoft originally expanded its refund policy for Cyberpunk 2077 due to myriad issues in the game that affected player enjoyment.

"To ensure that every player can get the experience they expect on Xbox, we will be expanding our existing refund policy to offer full refunds to anyone who purchased Cyberpunk 2077 digitally from the Microsoft Store, until further notice," Xbox Support wrote on Twitter in December. "While we know the developers at CD Projekt Red have worked hard to ship Cyberpunk 2077 in extremely challenging circumstances, we also realize that some players have been unhappy with the current experience on older consoles."

It seems Microsoft is satisfied enough with the fixes CD Projekt Red has made to Cyberpunk 2077 as it's ending the expanded refund policy for the game.

This news comes just a week after it was announced that Cyberpunk 2077 would return to Sony PlayStation's digital storefronts after the game was removed last year due to performance issues on the PlayStation 4. CD Projekt Red says the PS4 version of Cyberpunk 2077 will be improved "throughout the year" as the game returns to the PS Store, too. If you're wanting to request a refund of the game, here's how to request a refund for Cyberpunk 2077 on PS4 and Xbox One.
