Gotham Knights Developer Seemingly Starting Work on a Brand New AAA Game

It looks like WB Montreal is tooling up to start work on a brand new AAA game, according to recently posted job listings.

The Gotham Knights developer is currently wrapping up the Batman co-op action game, but PCGamesN has spotted a job listing that might give us an inkling as to what they're up to next.

A listing for a Senior Gameplay / Animation Programmer seen on the WB Games Montreal website says that it is seeking talented individuals "to work with its game development team responsible for a new IP, AAA title." The successful applicant's role will include optimizing "cross-platform gameplay systems" and "NPC behaviours" among other responsibilities like tuning ragdolls.

As pointed out by PCGamesN, the studio's website mentions that WB Games Montreal is "focused on developing games that expand the DC universe in the interactive space". While that doesn't totally rule out new IPs, it'd be a big change for the studio to jump into a new AAA IP as the job listing suggests.

It was long-rumoured that the studio was working on a Superman game, with concept art from the cancelled game apparently leaking online back in April 2020. This listing suggests that WB Montreal may not be reopening that old wound in the near future, though "new IP" could also just be a new DC game project outside of the Batman universe.

Either way, we'll be getting Gotham Knights ahead of this new AAA IP. The game was delayed out of 2021 in March of this year "to deliver the best possible experience for players.” Gotham Knights will now launch in 2022.
