Capcom has announced that its net sales and profits reached a record high level thanks to new releases and digital sales last quarter.
Capcom announced the news in a press release on its website. The company said that results for the three-month period, which ended June 30, showed that net sales were up 104.1% year-over-year as these stood at 48,423 million yen. Capcom also said that operating income was at 23,604 million yen (up 120.4% year-over-year) and ordinary income generated 23,899 million yen (up 125.0% year-over-year). These figures mean Capcom "achieved its highest net sales as well as highest levels of all profit items for a first quarter" according to the press release.
Capcom has attributed a portion of its success to the recent release of Resident Evil Village which served as a popular addition to the franchise. The game, which was released in May, has sold over 4.5 million copies across various platforms. IGN reviewed Resident Evil Village upon release and gave it an 8/10 for its "genuinely engrossing and increasingly combat-heavy continuation of the Ethan Winters story."
[widget path="global/article/imagegallery" parameters="slug=resident-evil-village-playstation-5-screenshots&captions=true"]Elsewhere in the release, Capcom reported that the continued growth of Monster Hunter Rise, which debuted on Nintendo Switch in March, had contributed to the company's financial success alongside other factors including an increase in digital sales. Of the latter, Capcom said that "High-margin digital sales grew significantly and drove profitability, with total sales of 13.3 million units far surpassing 9.2 million units during the same period the previous fiscal year."
Some of the success for Monster Hunter Rise could be attributed to Capcom's continued devotion to the game after release. On July 30, Capcom will release its second collaboration between Monster Hunter Rise and other Capcom games. Amaterasu, the beloved white wolf from Okami, will be added to the game which will let Monster Hunter players ride her around the beautiful land of Kamura Village.
