Numerous other games ranging from AAA titles to smaller endeavors also received nominations, with Final Fantasy 7 Remake, Yakuza: Like a Dragon, Half Life: Alyx, Cyberpunk 2077, Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim, Ori and the Will of the Wisps, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Paper Mario: The Origami King, Fall Guys, Noita, and many others picking up multiple honors. The full list of nominees can be found here.

The GIGA were established this year by the International Game Developers Association (IGDA) in an effort to celebrate contributions of individuals and discipline teams across game development, which are often not honored in major gaming awards shows that focus on game titles or project leads only.

“Our main goal in creating the Global Industry Game Awards is to put faces to games well-played and beloved across the world, because we often forget about the humans behind them,” said IGDA executive director Renee Gittins. “By celebrating the people in game development, no matter the discipline, we are increasing awareness and recognition on the part of fans while humanizing an industry mostly known for its technologies.”

Voting is currently ongoing and open only to members of the games industry, and will conclude on July 20, with winners announced in the first-ever awards event set for August 27.
