Moss: Book 2 Announced at Sony State of Play

Sony and developer Polyarc have announced Moss: Book 2, the sequel to the studio's 2018 PSVR hit that combined puzzles, platforming, combat, and a wonderful sense of being physically in the world through PSVR. We loved the original, and the sequel will also debut on PSVR, though no release date has been publicly announced as of yet.

“One of the biggest bits of feedback that we had was that players wanted more,” Polyarc design director Josh Stiksma told IGN. “They wanted more time with Quill, so this game is going to be larger.” Thus, you can expect new puzzles, enemies, environments, weapons, etc. One example Stiksma gave is how the player will now take more of a direct role in the game world. “The player can reach in and grab a vine and extend it to create a bridge for Quill," as an example. When I asked Stiksma about PSVR2, he played coy and simply said, “We don’t have anything to talk about regarding next-gen plans.” Given the fact that Moss: Book 2 has no announced release window and that PSVR 2 might be out next holiday, it's certainly possible that it will ship as a PSVR 2 launch title, though Stiksma was clear that it is absolutely a PSVR 1 game. However, he did also hint (emphasis on the word "hint") that, similar to how Moss 1 got a performance boost when playing on a PS4 Pro, the same might apply if you play on PS5 with the PSVR adapter.

Getting back to Moss: Book 2, which picks up right where Moss 1 (which sold over 1 million units) left off, Polyarc is doing its best to build on the great foundation the first game laid. “The core pillar of our game is Quill and your relationship with her,” Stiksma said. “We’re going to be working on building that connection; we want you to feel more emotion.”
