New Sonic Colors Ultimate Trailer Shows Off Graphical Enhancements and Metal Sonic

We already knew that Sega is releasing Sonic Colors Ultimate; a remastered version of the 2010 platformer. Today, Sega released a new trailer for the upcoming update, giving fans a quick tease on what to expect in terms of graphical enhancements, changes to the overall game, and new features not previously available in the original release.

Sonic Colors Ultimate will run at 4K resolution at 60 frames per second. The remaster will also introduce a new mode called Rival Rush, where players will compete in a race against Metal Sonic, traversing through levels in order to unlock some in-game rewards.

The remaster will also provide players the option to make some visual customizations in the form of changing the shoe and glove patterns for Sonic; in-game tokens you earn will allow you to purchase these in-game cosmetics. So if you ever dreamed of changing the color of Sonic's iconic shoes, this game will give you some freedom to do so. Additionally, you will be able to customize the controls to your liking.

Another noticeable addition coming to the remaster is a new Wisp power: Jade Ghost, which will allow Sonic to fly across levels and pass through solid objects while exploring areas the blue hedgehog would otherwise be unable to reach.

Sonic Colors Ultimate will also introduce new enhancements to the gameplay, such as Tails Save, an in-game item you can find in levels. When you have one in your possession, you can use it to be taken back to safety in the event you find yourself in a jam. There's also a new incentive to find 100 rings, which will grant you invincibility temporarily and nab you a boost after each level.

The release of Sonic Colors Ultimate is one of the many ways that Sega is planning to celebrate Sonic's 30th anniversary. Alongside the aforementioned remaster, a two-part animated series, Sonic Colors: Rise of the Wisps, was also announced recently. At the same time, a new game from Sonic Team is slated to launch sometime next year.

Sonic Colors Ultimate will launch on September 7th for PC, Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One.
