Spider-Man “would not exist if it wasn’t for PlayStation,” says Insomniac

If it hadn’t been for Sony’s unwavering support, Spider-Man may have never seen the light of day.

Insomniac Games may have never released Spider-Man if not for Sony giving the studio full control over the game.

Going by comments from the game’s creative director, it actually wouldn’t exist at all.

Speaking in an interview with Kinda Funny Games (thanks, Push Square), Insomniac’s Bryan Intihar said Sony’s support during development was second to none.

“This game would not exist if it wasn’t for PlayStation, if not for their support,” said Intihar. “Any time I wanted to do something, wanted to make some drastic change, it was just like, ‘Okay’.

“I never heard about anything. It was just ‘Go do it.’ The question was, ‘Is it gonna make the game better?’ and I’d say, ‘Yep’, and they’d go, ‘Okay’, and that would be the last time I’d hear about it…I owe everything to PlayStation”.

Props to Sony then, because Insomniac has developed a game which is a hit with critics and players alike. If we owned a PS4, and god willing someday we will, Spider-Man will be one of our first purchases.

Those who own the game have more content on the horizon in the form of The City that Never Sleeps. This three-part DLC series featuring new missions, villains, characters, and additional suits for Spider-Man will release episodically.

Each release is a chapter, and the first is called The Heist. It’s out on October 23. Chapters Turf Wars and Silver Lining will follow in November and December, respectively.

New Game Plus mode is also in the works.
