DICE has clarified an important question about the netcode of Battlefield 5.
Netcode in multiplayer games has been on the minds of shooter fans these past few days thanks to the discovery that Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is running at a subpar 20Hz tickrate in multiplayer.
With Battlefield 5 being the other big shooter releasing this year, it got fans wondering if DICE could clarify this important detail head of launch. David Sirland, multiplayer producer on Battlefield 5, was asked on Twitter what the game’s tickrate at launch is going to be.
Sirland confirmed Battlefield 5 will follow Battlefield 1’s example of 60Hz as the standard on PC, and 30Hz on PS4, and Xbox One. This is only the start, however, and the developer is open to upping these values should the need arise.
We will start out with the same settings at BF1. 30hz on console, 60hz on PC. But that's a start, and we'll invest in improving that too.

Sirland also clarified that modes with a smaller player count will support 120Hz on PC when they become available.

The number of players in Conquest, coupled with the weaker CPUs in consoles compared to PCs are one of the reasons why the tickrate target is lower on PS4, and Xbox One.
That said, Battlefield 1’s netcode is widely considered DICE’s best ever, and among the best in today’s multiplayer shooters, so replicating Battlefield 1’s setup sounds great.
In other Battlefield 5 news, DICE recently unveiled the game’s War Stories single-player campaign.
Battlefield 5 is out November 20 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
